Game Mechanics

"* [insert words here]*": This can be seen as "System Information" and will list important changes in the "system". This will appear when items/xp/money is lost or gained, Quests or quest information is revealed, possible bonus objectices (Whether stated or not) are failed.

ex: *Jim opened the large chest. Jim obtained: Gold x 100, Long sword, and oak shield*

ex: *Mary paid the bartender for her ale. Mary gained: Ale. Mary Lost: Gold x 5*

ex: *Harry learned about the goblin cave from the farmer. Harry started the quest: Hunt for Goblins*

ex: *Sue did not take the chance to listen in on the bandit's conversation. Sue failed to obtain bonus information on the prisoner; there are still chances to obtain information in other ways*

Battles: Will most likely be done in separate threads to keep from derailing or clogging up the main thread. We've got enough space anyway, so making a new thread per battle won't hurt the forum.

Combat: All combat rules/mechanics in one page here

It's pretty easy to understand and straight forward, thankfully. Just ask any questions if you're confused.

Dice Rolls: Wel'll be using this as our Dice roller.

Dice needed are refereed to as this: 1d20, 1d5, 4d6, etc.

It is read like this: 1d20: 1 Dice with 20 sides. 1d5: 1 Dice with 5 sides. 4d6: 4 Dice with 6 sides.

When rolling for a skill check or an attack roll, rolling a 1 means instant failure (With possible consequences) and a 20 means instant success (With possible benefits). The only times to note when this rule is different is when determining damage, after completing a successful attack roll, which always does at least 1 point of damage. Also, if you receive a perfect 20 when doing an attack roll not only do you pass, but you have to chance to do a critical attack, which is done by rolling the attack roll once more and passing (Regardless of getting another perfect 20 or not).

As for benefits or penalties for receiving a 20 or 1, depends on the task and the imagination of the DM. If you score a 20 while unlocking a chest, you might find a secret compartment as a reward, or if you haggle with a merchant, you might receive a hefty discount. As for penalties, thye can range from doing damage to yourself in combat or an ally or if you fail an intimidate check, you might end up with a fist fight on your hands.

"Taking 10 or 20": This concept allows you to assume you rolled a 10 or 20 without rolling the dice at all in certain situations. This can only be done in situations when you are undisturbed for the take 10, and have a long amount of time to do a task for take 20. An example for 10 would be picking the lock to a safe in the middle of the night when no one is around to bother you, but you still have a time limit. A take 20 example would be trying to decipher an Elven Scroll for the King, but you have all day to do it in the Mage's laboratory undisturbed. However, both options assume that you fail the task many times before you achieve success, as such you take the appropriate penalties. For example you take 20 on lock picking a door, but break many locks in the process. NOTE: This can only be used for Skill checks, NOT combat. Also the "Take 20" does not count as an automatic success, it is only your roll meaning: (CL) = 30. You Take 20 + modifier of 7. You failed the challenge. So taking 20 does not always mean success.

Inventory/Stats/XP: Every so often I might ask to see the newest version of your sheet or excel spread. Either way, it is up to the player to keep track of their stats and inventory. Keep it preferably up to date as events happen and somewhat legible. Be sure to keep track especially of XP, Temporary Buffs/enchantments, Total Weight, and the number of objects in inventory such as potions or ammo.

Roleplaying: DnD is obviously a Roleplaying game, therefore the game will require you to be crative and add your own personal flair to the storyline. There are really no rules when Roleplaying however, it's encouraged to be grammatically correct (Unless your character speaks in a certain way), include as much detail as possible, continue the story in a relevant and coherent way, and most important of all: BE CREATIVE.

Ex:The DM describes a Tavern with a group of adventurers, Rolf the Spy, a bard, and the bartender. Your current quest is to talk to Rolf the spy, that doesn't mean that you can't talk to the adventurers or order a drink, or talk to the bard. Who knows, maybe the adventurers may have a quest, or the Bard might raise a stat with his powerful songs. The Key is to play with an open mind.

Also, if you do want to talk to an NPC or do an action, there's no need to write messages in short choppy back in forth "Hey... how're you doing? Cool... me too... Hey,etc, etc". Write out long posts to minimalize the amount of time to advance your part of the story.

Ex: I walk over to the Bar tender and strike up a conversation, "Hello there, nice little bar you have here. I'd like a bottle of rum if you didn't mind, and order one for the bard too on me. Anyway, you see the group of adventurers over there? I heard them talking about some Cave, what was that about?" I wait for the bartender to get my rum patiently, "Ah thanks, also have you heard any leads about work lately?"

You can handle simple motions or even dialogue for NPCs not mentioned to be in the room by the DM. The DM however will introduce any important NPC's or hint at possible actions that can be done. Also, each person taks their respective turns until they finish, that means no butting into another PC's story/post unless you are mentioned or talked it over with the other player.

XP:Gained by completing quests, completing challenges, combat, using certain items, and is given daily (In-game). XP can be lost in rare situations such as being thrown in jail, neglecting training for a long time, or similar occurances. DM will determine XP rewards as the game goes on. Level-XP ratio goes as follows:

Level XP
1 0
2 1,000
3 3,000
4 6,000
5 10,000
6 15,000
7 21,000
8 28,000
9 36,000
10 45,000
11 55,000
12 66,000
13 78,000
1491,000
15 105,000
16 120,000
17 136,000
18 153,000
19171,000
20 190,000

XP is cumulative, and everyone no matter race or class goes by this leveling chart.

Campaign Background and Information

This campign will be located in the world named Eden. Alright named after the exact same paradise named in the Bible, this alternate world can be paradise or a complete hell. The supernatural stories and myths of Earth have roots in Eden, as both worlds have always been connected and always will. As such, the world of Eden is full of creatures and beings that may seem fantastical but in reality are 100% real. The various continents of the world vary as much as on Earth, whether it be in population or in technology. Those in Galos have been able to harvest the power of Steam, while those in Megalodon have mastered Magic to the point of incomprehensible means.

Technology:
-Varies from sticks and stones, to magic that resembles Sci-fi movies and stories.
-Guns ARE present, less so in "older" eras. They are hard to find depending on where you are I.E. In a forest of elves, no one will be selling spare 5.56 Ammo. However, in large cities there might be the occasional Earth wares dealer to acquire said weapons, but for a hefty price as well as Earth outcasts, mercenaries, or even governmental intelligence agencies.
-Magic can be viewed as witchcraft punishable by death or no one gives you a passing glance. Obviously a village of religious peasents is more likley to react badly than a college of wizards.

Relation to Earth:
-Cultures connect/effect eachother depending on the area. It could range from complete opposites (Earth Sibera: Tundra Eden Siberia: Desert) to vary similar (Oriental areas share similar dress, history, stories, etc.)
-Humans from earth can also be present in Eden, whether it be a rich tycoon looking for a new investment or a traveler tragically lost. Humans however will ALWAYS be a minority except in small cases, as such the creatures of Eden will perceive them in different ways.

Size/Structure:
-

Time:
-Time moves 3x slower than on Earth, however each day still consists of 24 hours. So 1 week on Eden = 3 Weeks on earth
-Eden is rich with magical energy, and counter weighs the flow of time. So a man 90 years old in Eden years can still look like a man in his 30's on Earth.
-Holidays/Festivals that are held on both Eden and Earth Ex. Christmas or Roshasanna, last 3 days straight. Eden only holidays last however long is determined.

Terms

This section will be for common/useful terms whether it be about the world or gameplay itself.

Challenge Level (CL): Identifies the number needed to pass a skill check/challege and can also be used to judge the difficulty of a task.Is determined by DM (Unless number is stated in a DnD Premade Quest log or something similar)

Ex:
lvl 2 Barbarian wants to use Intimidate to get information from a peasant.
Barbarian rolls 1d20 + 1 for Intimidate check against Peasant with CL of 10
Barbarian gets 12 (11+1) and succeds, getting information needed

or

lvl 14 Barbarian wants to use intimidate on Elite Royal Guard to see the king
Barbarian rolls 1d20 + 14 for Intimidate Check against Elite Royal Guard with CL of 40
Barbarian rolled 33 (19+14) and failed (Needs to level up his Intimidate to work against harder checks), getting thrown out of the castle for his actions.

Dugeon Master (DM): Refers to the narrator/creator of the game (aka me). The DM will make up quests, items, stories, characters, etc. in order to entertain the players. I know I am both a DM and a player, but I will try to be as fair as possible while throwing some twists into the plot.

The DM also uses a differnt font when talking, like this right now.

Murder hobo: Refers to when a PC is set on "Kill everything once, and kill any survivors 2 times over". Burn the Village, tip over the cows, and make sure the picture frame is crooked.

Non-Playable Character (NPC):Character which are under the control of the DM and interact with the PC's whether it be directly or indirectly. Companions/Familiars/Followers do not count as NPC's as they are under control of the PC.

Player Character (PC): Simple, refers to either the player them self or their character.
